WW2
WW2: Volkhov Forest, Russia
You are part of an Infantry Battalion heading towards the warm water port. port arthur. In the Goal to capture it from the russians and secure japanese naval superiority in the yellow sea.

But at the northern Mouth of the river your battalion got split up east and west of the river in attempts to avoid a russian regiment. You're too far down the river now to go back and regroup so your marching orders are to keep going south and find a way to regroup, then join the rest of the Brigade to attack Port arthur.

NOTES:
1 Communications
2 squad layout

1.Since this is inspired by the Russo-japanese war. It will be VERY different form what we are used to.

There are NO radios, not even Long range. This mission is part of an idea I've had to give the guys on the ground more independence. So for all intents and purposes, your overall command is high command. But since this is the first time i've done this i will give orders if you really need direction. The way of communication will be runners.

Using the notepad, runners will give the notepads to the recipient, to simplify things its suggested to keep it simple stupid. So if you want a platoon to attack a enemy positions it might look a bit like this.

Platoon 2
Move to grid (gird)
Attack from south
Enemy MG and cannon present

Or if you want to reply info to zeus

Command
Platoon 1 has encountered enemy trench line
South grid (grid)
Request orders

But if this doesn't work well, steam or discord DMs and be RPed as carrier pigeons

  1. Again this is even before ww1, so the common weapons are rifles, and the sidearms of officers and line sgts.
So the only real units are, the riflemen, the grenadier (rifle man with hella nades)
Medic and the 2 commanding units, the line SGT (SL) and the officer (Overall)

The war is in a grey periods of military battle tactics (mainly platoon level combat)

Where the old rigid close order formations and being fazed out of western militaries in favor of open order lines, tactics.
In this period of time the way squads and platoons fight are still different to how they operate now. Loose line formations are used, its like the classic line combat but with emphasis on cover (but not initiative on the single man) your still part of a greater formations, but your not stood out in the open.
