Brief
A stalker originally contracted by General Makar Aleksandrov to help obtain and understand objects stolen from the zone has contacted the US government with concerns about the experiments happening in the proclaimed 'second zone' and has agreed to guide a team around the island to retrieve information on the experiments there so they can be counteracted.
You will join up with a Spetznas team, who have been sent as a show of trust over matters of the zone agreement, at the meeting point proposed by the stalker and they will assist you with this task.
You are to return with a sample and whatever technical data you can gather about what is being developed there.
As we understand radio communication distance is reduced on the island and you will need to use the large radio tower on the island to request exfil.
As with the primary zone, night vision does not effectively work as it is distorted by the features there.
command will not be on radio this mission
follow instructions/explore
background -
year is 1989 (so no GPS)
Sometime in the mid 1960s in a still undisclosed location within the USSR a zone was either created by some disaster, scientific mishap or naturally occurring disaster, records of how it came to be are lost.
At the center of the zone there is a room that is said to grant the deepest desires of anyone who is able to reach it. Only a select few are able to navigate the zone effectively, they are known as stalkers.
Initially the soviet government sealed it off for years, blowing it off as a myth, but in the early 1980s they couldn't ignore members of the Russian population being born with psychic powers. Whilst investigating these powers they realised that the zone was connected, they eventually realised a way to weaponise tahese powers. Much like what had happened after the testing of the tsar bomb, the scientists working on this technology secretly came clean to the rest of the world's government's and after a power shift in the leadership of the USSR the zone was completely shut off with a secret treaty for all nations to not enter or use anything in the zone.
In 1987 a section of the soviet military, led by fanatic general Makar Aleksandrov, managed to smuggle artefacts from the zone to a small island and began conducting tests.
When the soviet government discovered this, they initially attempted to shut it down, but they immediately lost contact with the forces they sent there and they have not returned.
With General Makar now hijacking television broadcasts in Russia and talking about world domination, the USSR has turned to America in a show of 'transparency' around matters concerning the zone.
